Tips for Conserving Water
Did you know that letting a single drop of oil down the drain can pollute 4 gallons of water, and that flushing a cigarette stub down the toilet does the same for 8?
Because protecting our environment is of vital importance, we want to share with you some tips to CONSERVE WATER.
- When taking a shower, place a bucket on the floor next to you. The water that falls at your side can be recovered and used to flush the toilet.
- Take short showers, and close the taps when scrubbing. This will conserve several litres.
- Use a glass of water when brushing your teeth and don’t leave the water running. A five-person household can save up to 40 litres per day this way.
- You can also employ a container with water when shaving instead of rinsing your razor under the tap.
- The regular toilet in Mexico uses 16 litres per flush. If this is the case at your home, consider switching to one of thewater-saving options that employ only 6 litres per flush and are now available. The most modern of these also have two flushing options: 3 litres for liquids, and 6 litres for solids.
- In the kitchen, save the water you cooked vegetables in and use it to water your plants once it has cooled. Scrub all your dishes first and then rinse them under a moderate flow from the tap. When closing the tap, make sure there’s no dripping.
- Wash full loads in the washing machine. Reuse the water from the rinsing cycle to flush the toilet.
- Water your lawn after sundown to prevent evaporation and increase utilization by plants.
- Remember to give periodic maintenance to all taps and water pipes in your home. A constant-drip leak can waste up to 40 litres per day.
- Do not use a water hose to wash your car, garage, patio, or windows. Use buckets to limit your water consumption.
